RSD (Reflex Sympathetic
Dystrophy), also known as
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS I), is a chronic
neurological and chronic pain syndrome that affects between 200,000
and 1.2 million Americans, characterized by:
-
Severe burning
pain
-
Pathological
changes in bone and skin
-
Excessive
sweating
-
Tissue swelling
-
Extreme
sensitivity to touch
-
Limited range of

-
Movement

-
Abnormal Skin
color changes
RSD is a malfunction of part of
the nervous system. Nerves misfire, sending constant pain signals to
the brain. RSD develops in response to an event the body
regards as traumatic, such as an accident or a medical procedure.
Even minor injuries can cause problems. For example: a sprain or a
fall are frequent causes of RSD. One characteristic of RSD
is that the pain is more severe than expected for the type of injury
that occurred
Early and accurate diagnosis and
appropriate treatment are key to recovery, yet many health care
professionals do not properly recognize and diagnose its signs and
symptoms. Typically, individuals with RSD report seeing an
average of five physicians before being accurately diagnosed.
RSD
(Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy)
is not a psychological syndrome, but children may develop
psychological problems when physicians, parents, teachers and other
children do not believe their complaints of pain.
There are three main factors that could
give rise to possible monetary retribution:
-
The RSD condition
caused by an unnecessary surgery.
-
The RSD condition
caused by an injection given in the wrong place or did an IV
infiltration go unnoticed for too long.
-
Improper or
negligence in misdiagnosing the RSD (Reflex Sympathetic
Dystrophy) condition, even after the patient informs the health
care professionals of the symptoms they are experiencing.
